Multiple Tooth Implants
Fort Wayne, IN

If you are one of the 178 million Americans who are suffering from tooth loss, then there is a high probability that you have considered your options for restoring your smile. There are many different treatment options available to patients who have sustained tooth loss, but one option that is growing in popularity is dental implants. This year, over a half million people will decide to improve their smile through the aid of dental implants permanently. We here at Summit Dental Group are proud to provide our patients with the choice of getting dental implants for their multiple tooth loss.

What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a type of permanent restoration. They are comprised of three main components, which include the titanium post, the abutment, and the restoration. The titanium post is the part of the implant that is placed directly into the jawbone. We use titanium because the body does not reject this metal, and instead, your bone material builds up over it, which is called osseointegration. The abutment is the connector piece, which means that it attaches the titanium post to the restoration. Finally, the restoration itself, which is the crown, is the part of the implant that resembles a tooth.

When Do You Need Multiple Dental Implants?

When a person has sustained loss of more than one of their teeth, then they may require multiple dental implants. Depending on the location of the tooth loss, the severity of the loss, and their general oral health, they may be good candidates for multiple dental implants. However, not all patients may benefit from multiple implants. In these instances, they may be better candidates for implant-supported bridges or implant supported dentures.

Implant-Supported Bridge

When a patient is missing one or more teeth, they may be a good candidate for a dental bridge. Not all patients can benefit from dental bridges, though, especially if they have sustained loss of multiple teeth. If they do not have strong teeth to help support the bridge, they may need an implant. This can allow them to get a bridge, even if they do not have a healthy tooth to attach the crown. The implant, therefore, acts as an abutment for the bridge itself.

Implant Supported Denture

Implant supported dentures allow patients to have the benefits of a complete restoration of their dental arch, but without requiring placing the implants one at a time. Instead, they can place just a few titanium posts on their upper or lower arch. An overdenture is placed over these posts, giving them a brand-new smile.

The All-on-4® Treatment Concept

The All-on-Four Treatment Concept has a similar principle to the implant supported denture. It allows a patient to get a complete restoration of their upper or lower arch, yet it does not require more invasive treatment. Four titanium posts are placed on the arch, and the overdenture is placed over these posts. For many patients, there is little downtime from the placement of the posts to the final restoration, giving them natural-looking and attractive results in just a fraction of the time.

If you are missing more than one of your permanent, adult teeth, then you deserve to feel happy and confident once more when you smile.
